National Geographic Adventurer of the Year announces Pasang Lamhu of Nepal

Each year, National Geographic honors Adventurers of the Year, whose extraordinary achievements in exploration, adventure sports, conservation or humanitarianism have distinguished them. From those honorees, Nat Geo invites the public to vote for a People’s Choice winner.This year’s winner, Pasang Lhamu Sherpa Akita, is considered one of the best women climbers in Nepal. She played a crucial role in relief efforts in the country after it suffered a severe earthquake in April 2015.Pasang has distributed over 10,000 blankets to people in need in Nepal and she’s focused on supporting and advocating for girls education in disadvantaged Nepali communities. In 2014, Pasang ascended K2, the second highest mountain in the world and considered much more difficult than Everest, with two other Nepali women. It was the first Nepali all-women team to summit K2.Pasang won the People’s Choice, thanks to a tremendous amount of support from people in Nepal, who have rallied around Pasang as an inspiration. She earned more votes than Tommy Caldwell and Kevin Jorgenson! -
