Nepalese condition at Malaysia jail
According to the Nepali Embassy in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), 150,000 Nepali migrant workers are currently working in the country. UAE has now emerged as one of the major destination for overseas jobs for Nepali migrant workers. According to Embassy officials, half of the Nepali migrant workers in UAE are employed in the construction sector as majority of them fall under the 'unskilled' category. While 25 percent of the Nepalis are employed in manufacturing industries, the rest are employed in hospitality and security services.
The earnings of Nepali workers were in the range of US$ 180 to 300 per month. Hospitality and security sector paid the highest while construction workers were paid the least. Many Nepali women were found working as housemaids and were only paid US$ 150 per month. Manpower agents in Nepal have been sending Nepali women to UAE and most of them did not have proper legal papers to work in the country.Most of the women were sent to UAE through illegal channels via India.
Although the Department of Foreign Employment reported than only 38 women migrant workers were employed in UAE during the current fiscal year, unofficial estimates stand at more than 300. According to a UN report, at least 7,000 Nepali women migrant workers are working in UAE.
